RAGTAG EATS: Niantic - Village Bake House

I love the sandwiches and baked goods at the Village Bake House located in Niantic, CT. Their breakfast sandwiches are the ultimate deal. For $3.99 you get a "freshly cracked and fried egg" on top of your choice of bread, a choice of meat, cheese, and an additional topping. And I'm telling you that thing is HUGE.  The bread isn't just cheap loaf bread or french bread, you get to pick from: a croissant, ciabatta roll, kaiser roll, or english muffin. The meats: bacon, sausage, or ham. The cheeses: cheddar, pepperjack, american, and havarti. The toppings: tomato, carmelized onion, and baby spinach. My pick of the morning was a ciabatta breakfast sandwich with fried egg, bacon, cheddar, and baby spinach. It was AMAZING. My husband and I both agree it is the perfect place to bring guests for a quick breakfast and decent coffee. It doesn't hurt that you can get some chocolate-drop peanut butter cookies or homemade hermits to-go either.

Food:
  • I've had both their breakfast and lunch sandwiches and everything is delicious. Their fresh salads are huge and one of their most popular items.
  • They serve coffee and tea but also have bottled juices, water, and sodas.
Conveniences:
  • I have not been to the Groton location yet, but the Niantic location does not have a bathroom. If you do need to find a bathroom nearby, there's a Dunkin Donuts and a movie theater around the corner from the shopping center.
  • This is a casual cafe-style restaurant and food is ordered at the counter.
  • The seating area is not large, so I wouldn't recommend having large parties dine-in the cafe. It's the perfect food to take for picnics though!
  • If you decide to have a picnic, Hole-in-the-Wall Beach is within walking distance and McCook Points Park (a park, beach, and playground all rolled into one) is about a 3 minute drive away.
  • They have a of couple high chairs.
  • Credit cards are accepted.
  • There's seasonal outdoor seating, but the view is of the parking lot.
Things to Remember:
  • Great place to bring out-of-town guests for a quick meal!
