RAGTAG PLACES: Waterford - Civic Triangle Park

Our favorite playground in Waterford is in the Civic Triangle Park next to Waterford Town Hall. It's only a year old and has the best equipment you can find in the area. I think most of you will agree that once you become a parent, you become a bit of a playground snob. If there's only 1 slide and no cushy-padding, you immediately turn around and find another playground. When you do, lets hope you find this post online and end up here.

RAGTAG Annie likes: "Boom-boom slide!"

Waterford, CT 06385

Park:
  • Entire park includes baseball field, playground, gazebo, walking trail, and duck pond. There's also a skate park in the same area next to the Youth Services building.
  • Picnic tables and benches are located near the playground.
Playground:
  • There are 2 playground areas. An older one by the baseball field and a newer one directly in front of the parking lot.
  • The newer playground has cushy-padding. Hooray!
  • The tractor playground set (pictured on the left above) is made specifically for smaller children. It says 3-5 years, but I think it's a great place to bring any child who has started walking as they have playground equipment/activities at eye-level.
  • They have what RAGTAG Annie calls a "boom-boom slide." It looks like a table from a factory assembly line that they've propped sideways. All the kids love it although I wouldn't recommend having a kid run up the slide the wrong way. It ends up looking like a Looney Tunes cartoon where they're running and getting nowhere, and someone always ends up in tears!
  • The playground has both toddler and regular swings. No handicap swing at this playground.
Conveniences:
  • There's a porta-potty in the parking lot, but the public restrooms are in the back (to the left of the playground). For a public park, they have surprisingly clean restrooms.
  • Great place to have a picnic. There's a lot of natural shade around the park and in the picnic area. The gazebo also provides a nice picnic spot and has a great view of the pond.
  • I noticed they are very quick to replace broken items at the playground. A broken swing was immediately replaced 2 days later.
Things to Remember:
There are a couple hazards at this park that you may have to deal with if you take your eyes off your child for more than a few seconds.
  • Parking lot -It is located directly in front of the playground and although this can be convenient when getting the kids out of the car, more than once I've seen small children run away from the playground and make a beeline towards the parking lot.
  • Duck pond - It's lovely and all, but downhill from the playground area there's a small creek that runs off of the pond. Again, many times I've witnessed a kid run down the hill away from their parents and they always head straight for the creek or pond.
